The Case
Management Society of Australia Inc. was founded in 1996 in
response to growing demands for support and information about
Case Management. It was established with critical support from
health industry stakeholders.
CMSA is
a non-profit organisation dedicated to the support and
development of the practice of quality Case Management.
Publicise,
advance and encourage the practice of Case Management in
Australia.
Open
benchmarking opportunities within Australia and
internationally.
Educate
health care professionals, health care delivery
organisations, health funds and the general public in the
advancement of quality health care; and promote the
health benefits and cost/benefit effectiveness of Case
Management.
Promote
the professionalism and science of the practice of Case
Management in the development of high standards of
performance, skill, service and conduct of Case Managers.
Provide
a national forum for, and assist in, unifying the common
interests of professionals actively engaged in Case
Management through discussions, research and courses of
study in the field of Case Management, as well as through
the Society's publications, conferences and meetings.
Establish
the means by which persons and firms offering services or
products within or to the Case Management field may
coordinate their efforts to advance the practice.
Create
opportunities for Case Managers to network with each
other.
The
Case Management Society of Australia is the sole
representative body of Case Management in Australia. We
are the Australian affiliate of the Case Management
Society International - a global affiliation that
provides education forums, research and networking
opportunities, which is linked with other Societies in
such places as Africa, Spain, Hong Kong, the United
Kingdom and the USA.
The
establishment of an organisation to promote interest, knowledge
and standards in Case Management such as the Case Management
Society of Australia has provided a focus for practitioners,
service providers and funding bodies who are confronting the
challenges of the Case Management approach.
Within the
first two years of its inception, the focus of the Society
broadened to recognise the broad application of Case Management
in diverse settings within the health and human services
industries in Australia.

Brad Cooper

Brad Cooper is the current Acting Chairman of the CMSA. In
addition he has been an member of the CMSA Board for seven years serving the
Society through its development of the National Standards of Practice and the
associated SAF and SAM tools.
Brad Cooper is the Eastern Metropolitan Community Packages
Program Manager with Baptcare. Brad has managed one of the fastest growing
community care regional programs since joining Baptcare in 2005.
Brad is a registered nurse with postgraduate qualifications
in Case Management and a Masters of Health Administration and Information
Systems. Brad has held an academic position at The University of Melbourne and a
nursing management position within a Melbourne Hospital, as well as operating a
case management consultancy role. Brad has been published nationally in the area
of Case Management, and has conducted research into the role of nurses working
as HACC Assessment Officers in regional Victoria.
He now is involved with a Baptcare study looking at longitudinal changes in health status for clients on CACP and EACH packages.
As an invited speaker, Brad often speaks on the areas of case management
professional practice, workforce planning / development, and challenging the
perspectives of stakeholders involved in Case Management.

Kerrie Maher

Kerrie is the Acting Vice Chairman of the CMSA. Kerrie has worked in a range of aged, disability, health and community sectors including case management and assessment programs for the last 9 years. Kerrie is
the Innovations, Research and Development Manager with Care Connect Ltd and has qualifications in disability and business management. Kerrie has worked in such areas as local government, allied health, visual impairment, Aged Care Assessment Teams, Home and Community Care assessment and the Primary Care Partnerships. Kerrie is also a member of the Victorian Linkages Programs Network and the National Community Care Case Managers Network.

Prue Sky
Prue Sky has
worked in the community care sector for 17 years, the last 13 of which have been
as Manager and then Executive Officer of Community Care (Northern Beaches) (CCNB).
During that time CCNB has grown from a small organisation operating two
projects, to its current position with fourteen projects as well as several
research and development proposals. Prue has a degree with major studies in
Sociology and Politics. She has a strong commitment to empowering individuals
as their own decision makers and identifies the capacity of assessment and case
management services to support this process. Prue is currently involved in a
number of state and regional initiatives in community care.

Kathy Day

Kathy is a Registered Nurse who holds a BN, Grad Dip Case Management, Cert IV Voc. and Ed. Training and Assessment and is currently in
her final year of a Masters of Nursing (Case Management). Her current role is
Manager, Aged Health & Rehabilitation, Bellarine Community Health Inc.,
Victoria. She previously worked as the Regional
Manager of Southern Cross Care (Vic) Barwon Region. Kathy's 28 years of experience includes institutional,
educational and community settings. Kathy was instrumental in the formation of the Geelong Regional Case Management Network Group in 2003 which continues to organise ongoing case management seminars in the region. She was a recipient of two scholarships for continuing professional development in 2003 and a CMSA travel grant last year. Kathy has undertaken study tours of case management organisations in the USA in 2002 and in the USA and Scotland in 2004. Kathy has presented at Case Management and Aged Care Conferences in USA and Australia and has a special interest in elder abuse issues. Kathy is also a Board Member of the Elder Abuse Prevention Association of Australia.

Lawrence Walsh

Lawrence Walsh is an Occupational
Therapist with over 23 years experience working in various areas of health,
disability, community support and injury management both in the private and
public sectors.He is currently employed by the Motor Accident’s Insurance Board
which is a Tasmanian Government Business Enterprise that provides medical,
rehabilitation and income benefits on a no-fault basis to persons injured as a
result of a motor accident while enabling access to common law. Part of his
work has been to introduce and develop Case Management as a specialist and
distinct service for clients who have sustained severe injuries and disabilities
and who may require complex long term care and support. He works with a number
of rehabilitation provider groups and assists the claims teams to achieve
positive outcomes for clients. Lawrence acts as an advisor to the MAIB’s Injury
Prevention and Management Foundation and was the co-founder of the Case
Management Interest Networks in Tasmania.

Kate Mason

Kate Mason (nee Trinham)
is the Team Leader, Case Management Services, Transport Accident Commission,
Victoria.
The TAC is a
compulsory third party insurer that provides compensation for Victorian's
injured in transport accidents. Case Management services funded by the TAC are
provided to clients who have sustained severe head or spinal injuries. Kate
manages the TAC's relationship with both contracted and non-contracted Case
Management providers across Australia. Kate has a Bachelor of Applied Science
(Disability Studies) and is currently studying for her Graduate Diploma in
Public Policy and Management. She has worked with people with disabilities in
various case management roles within Australia and the United Kingdom and has
several years experience in both community based and compensable settings.

Vivian

Vivian
is currently employed as the Executive Officer for NSW Community Options
Projects Incorporated and has held the position for the past 6 years. NSW COPS
is the Peak organisation representing over 80 projects and their associated
outlets across NSW. The projects are HACC funded and provide Case
Management and Brokerage services to people with complex or high support needs.
Vivian has a 2Oyear history of experience within the Community Care sector in a
variety of Welfare. Disability and Aged care environment Vivian’s initial
background was in Health, progressing to studies in Social Science and in recent
times Communications. Vivian is an active participant across a broad band of
forums looking at current policy initiatives and interface issues within the
service sector in order to improve the opportunities for people who require such
advocacy.

Deb Richman

RN, RM, Grad Dip Adv Nurs (Critical Care), Grad Cert CM.
Deb Richman is Case Management Coordinator at Calvary Health Care Tasmania -
Hobart, a position she has held since 2002. Deb has qualifications in Midwifery,
a Graduate Diploma in Critical Care and completed a Graduate Certificate in Case
Management from the University of Melbourne in 2003. As Case Management
Coordinator Deb is responsible for case management services across two campuses
in Southern Tasmania. This includes overseeing the Pre-admission Clinic,
clinical pathways and variance analysis, case management of complex discharges
and patients awaiting residential aged care placement, and the impact of health
fund contracts on length of stay and clinical services.
Deb chairs the Little Company of Mary Health Care (LCMHC) National Case
Management Group. |
Our membership base is steadily increasing and is located both within Australia and
overseas.
Given our rising membership base, we are able to
confidently commit to plans for regular annual
conferences and regular publications.
